ORIGIN
The village of Juliénas produces one of best well known of the 10 Beaujolais Crus.
Vines have been cultivated here since the time of Julius Cesar (hence the name).
Facing south, south-west the vines are perfectly sited.
The appellation area covers 600 hectares.
The maximum yield is 52hl per hectare with the maximum alcoholic degree at 13°.
VINIFICATION
The harvest takes place in mid-September. All the grapes are picked manually as the Beaujolais semi carbonic winemaking process requires that the bunches be whole.
The grapes come from vines of mainly 45 years.
Pressing is after 10 days of vatting. Malo-lactic fermentation and maturing takes place in vats.
WINE CHARACTERISTCS AND ADVICES
Juliénas is powerfully built and rich in colour, making it one of the Beaujolais Crus to lay down.
It combines sound structure, fruitiness and well-developed aromas wonderfully.
Here the taster will discover peony and violet aromas alongside red fruit (black currant – raspberry) and peach kernel.
It may be enjoyed young but only gives of its very best after one or several years cellaring.
Our Juliénas is excellent with red meat, game, coq au vin and matured cheeses. Enjoy it at between 15°C.
